Pastor and Mrs. Foo
Salvation Testimony

Pastor James Foo was born in Singapore and was raised a Buddhist. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at the age of around fourteen. He attended a local church where he grew in the knowledge of the Lord. He was severely persecuted by his parents when he asked for permission to be baptized. His Buddhist parents and clans believed that he was brain-washed by the foreign religion and was forsaking his family’s traditions and belief.

Calling & Education

Two years into his marriage to Fiona, God called him to be a pastor. He encountered numerous obstacles when he announced his decision. His loved ones deemed him foolish to give up a promising career and comfortable lifestyle to follow an allusive dream.

In 1984, Pastor Foo and his wife who was pregnant with their first child left the island state to go to a Bible college in Wisconsin. After completing his graduate studies in 1989, he returned back to Singapore with his wife and two ABC (American Born Chinese) children. He was a Baptist pastor for more than nine and a half years. In 1998, he re-entered USA to further his graduate studies in Dallas Theological Seminary, TX. After graduating with a Master of Theology in 2002, he pastored in Texas and volunteered as a chaplain in Baylor Hospital of Dallas. During that time, he was also pursuing his Doctor of Ministry program in Marriage and Family Therapy in Denver Seminary.

In April 2009 the Lord led Pastor Foo to Southern Oklahoma Chinese Baptist Church, Norman, OK as its senior pastor. He often commented that “It was God who has dropped this church on his lap.” He and his wife are very grateful for the Lord’s choice and timing. He finds this ministry exciting and challenging.  His goal and the focus of his ministry within SOCBC is to “lead our church family to become more intimate with God and others through Jesus Christ.”

Foo Family

Fiona was born and raised in a Christian home. She accepted the Lord as her Savior after her high school. Fiona met Pastor Foo and they were married in 1982 in the local church where they both served. Besides working from home as a case manager, she accompanies Pastor Foo in visitation, teaches the toddlers during worship, and help to care for the flock.

Jamie and Jonathan Foo

Jamie, their daughter is studying Occupational Therapy in graduate school of OU, while Jonathan, their son is studying Kinesiology in UT Austin. Both of them had accepted the Lord at a tender age.

Family Verse

Deuteronomy 6:10-12

When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
